Fear Factor – Halloween and Beyond

Happy HalloweenI often write about how fear impacts our life. So what a great time to look at how fear  can drive us . Halloween has traditionally been a time of embracing the eerie things in life. We encourage our children to dress up, in often creepy outfits, to be rewarded with something sweet for their efforts. What does this say about us as a race? That deep down we know.

If We Embrace Fear We Reap Rewards

Let’s look at how we’ve been trained. As children when we are fearful, adults offer rewards like sweets, an outing, a toy, or a cuddle if we face our fears.

As teenagers we are bombarded by fears: we won’t fit in, we won’t pass exams or  we won’t find a boyfriend/girlfriend. Sex is often in the back of our mind, what will it be like the first time, what about pregnancy, disease?  Because of these fears we take action, we study for exams, we apply ourselves to be friendly, we put ourselves out there. We protect ourselves sexually. Our fear drives us, without it we would coast along and not develop.

As adults, we start to fear for our children, for their safety. We fear our financial security and losing our life status. What does that do? It drives us to take action.

As mature adults, we fear our declining health, even death. So what do we do? We take action to improve our health.

So as Halloween approaches, it is a great time to consider.

What is it You Fear the Most?

Take action to ensure that you can meet that fear head on and it will certainly disappear and create life improvement. So if you’re scared of ghosts why not head out on the 31st dressed as a ghost.

Happy Trick or Treating,

Dee.

I love this post! I have written of fear before in many ways. It is way too easy for people to be trapped in making decisions based on fear, without even realizing it. Imagine if we made decisions in life based on desire, rather than fear. Imagine the possibilities. My most real fears nowadays are those gnawing fears and worry about my son, but I have to be careful with that. Must focus on just loving him, rather than worrying about all the what-ifs. That’s not a quality way to spend time!
